Do You Need Permission To Approach Women?

Dear Seeker of Success,

Someone told me that if he’s introduced to women at a party he can talk to them, no problem.

But if he has to make an approach to a woman anywhere else, he doesn’t feel that he has “permission” to talk.

That struck me as saying when you think of “approaching“, that calls to mind that there’s a gap that you have to close (the distance between you and her, and the need to begin a conversation that isn’t happening yet).

Gee: that’s not a very useful metaphor.

See, it eliminates the possibility that you could be standing right next to someone or walking side by side with them. What would be a better metaphor?

He Had It Ass-Backward, Using
The Word “Permission”

I explained to him, “You think you need permission to be playful, fun and engaging. I’m telling you, your playfulness, fun and engaging energy creates the permission. You’ve got the cart before the horse.”

Being able to listen to his language in a way that told me how he’s structuring his experience – and what he’s limiting as a possibility – enabled me to move him.

Remember: a lot of this is learning to look at people and listen in a different way. You can always use those skills with anybody.

Expand your ability to use your skills with everybody to get in the right state.
