Harry – the whole idea of an “engagement ring” was invented by the Romance Racketeers at the jewelry shop to sell more diamond rings. It’s bullshit.
The same way so-called “Valentine’s Day” was invented – as a marketing ploy by other Romance Racketeers. Except for in the Diocese of Rome and one other place, since 1969 (ha ha, but seriously…1969), February 14th hasn’t even been the Feast of St. Valentine. It is now the feast of Sts. Cyril and Methodius – as in, the guys who invented the Cyrillic alphabet and a bunch of other accomplishments.
